It's funny how life often imitates fiction. I realized yesterday that life does have a ripple effect. We recently read a story (The Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury) that was based on the concept of time travel and that when they destroyed a dinosaur in one time period when they returned to their year they found that who won the presidential election had changed. Yesterday it hit me that how we interact with each other, however small, it causes a riipple. Some of those ripples are small and go unnoticed but some of those ripples are big and the effects of it can be seen and felt in a major way. So I will say this....treat people with kindness. It will not only change their life but it will eventually ripple back to you and change yours.
Have a great day everyone!

Symbolism of People I'm Close to
Many of my friends wear symbols of their faith. Some wear crosses to show their Christianity. Some wear the Star of David to represent their faith in Judism. Every faith has a symbol and that represents what they believe. It shows that have a commitment to their faith and to what they believe is G-d. My friends tell me that wearing things of that nature gives them strength. They can feel it and hold it when they feel like they need a boost or some comfort. I have one friend is Jewish and he has his symbol of his faith tattooed on his leg. It is fabulous artwork and it there for all to admire. It also sometimes brings conversation and sometimes it brings negativity. For him it represents more the culture and heritiage of his culture of his where his faith comes from. It's an interesting way to celebrate his faith. Is this something you do as well? I would like to hear about it.

A SYMBOL IN MY OWN LIFE
I have a few symbols in my own life but the one that is most important to me is the symbol of music. I have jewelry with G-clef's on it. I even have a old time Victrola tattooed on my leg with music notes and the saying "Music Feeds My Soul" on it. Music, for me, represents so much. When I was young my mother would sing around the house all the time. She had a beautiful voice. We would listen to music for hours, both of us together, and dance and sing. It brings a smile to my face when I think about it. I also became a member of an elite group of people to march in Drum Corps (gets mistaken for marching band but it is very different, technique, music, etc). Being fortunate enough to be a part of this group I learned how to play many instruments and I learned other things as well. I was a part of that group for twenty years. In my middle and high school years I was part of band and chorus respectively. I continue to sing today and when I listen to music I listen to it a little differently then the average person. I listen to not just how the lyrics move me but I listen to the parts of the music as well. I always have something related to music on me, obviously my tattoo, but sometimes something more. It is forever ingrained in me and I enjoy it very much. What's your symbol and why?

Poetry
Poems are the next thing on our list for this class. I have great difficulty in analyzing them because most have verbiage I don't necessarily understand. I try to break it down but sometimes even with my dictionary in hand (yes in hand) it is difficult. Poetry is fustrating for me but I hope that with some great guidance that I will be able to work through this and get where I need to be with the poems.

Literature
Not all literature is the same. I have noticed through my readings that some writers have a flair for taking a story almost to the point of fantasy. Some even go to the point of having some magical content in the stories. I have found that not everything I am reading is stuff that I am enjoying but all of them, I have found, are interesting. Interesting in the respect that makes me think "how do they come up with this stuff?" Some writers come up with stories of things I would never have imagined. Stories, that although I may not like them, always make me ask a multitude of questions. In the end isn't that what good stories are about?
Have a great day!

Stories so far.....
I have found that the stories we have read so far are very interesting. They have been stories about things that I personally would never think of. I have found them to be very creative. I just wish I was better at remembering the titles of the stories I want to speak about. I'll be back.....
Out of the Loop
Hello all!
I am back! Not that anyone noticed but I'm glad to be back to class and I'm even more thrilled that I am functionable enough to do the work. I never thought I would say that. I missed being able to pull out my books and work on the assignments. I am a little behind but I will strive to catch up and move forward. Being sick really is a downer when all you can do is lay in bed in sleep. Well I'll see you all next time and I will be more on the subject matter at hand. Going global!
